Ken Foley Custom Homes began operations in 1976, shortly after Ken graduated from the American University in Washington, DC with a degree in business administration. Ken has been involved in the construction industry since 1969 and the age of 16. He personally oversees all phases of the operation and often dons his tools to help get the job done. When Ken says he will "Build Your Home", he is not speaking figuratively as most builders are. He will be there every day and he will actually work on your home with his hands and his tools, providing a personal touch and degree of control that the big boys can only dream of and pretend to have. Ken is an accomplished designer, is adept at Computer-Assisted Drafting and Design (CADD or CAD), and he designs and draws most of the jobs we do. He is a skilled carpenter and an experienced builder. He also holds a Virginia Real Estate Salesperson's license. Ken has supplemented his education since 1976 with courses at George Washington University, the American University, The National Institute of Real Estate, The National Association of Home Builders, The National Association of the Remodeling Industry, The Northern Virginia Board of Realtors School of Real Estate, the Town & Country School of Real Estate, the Smithsonian Institution, Advanced Relational Technologies Training Seminars, and Fred Pryor Seminars on such subjects as Computer-Assisted Design (CAD), Blueprint Engineering, Real Estate Investment and Financing, Real Estate Law and Contracts, Real Estate Zoning, Real Estate Ethics, Real Estate Appraising, Real Estate Continuing Education, Fair Housing, Math, Computers, Single-Family Home Architecture, Radon Reduction Techniques, Lead Abatement Techniques for remodeling, Delegation, Management, and Fine Woodworking. Ken Foley Custom Homes has used Computer Assisted Drafting and Design (CADD or CAD) since the mid-1980's, making ours one of the first firms in the area to be so-equipped. A front-page article in the Washington Post real estate section featured a full 4-column photo of Ken at our office CAD terminal and excerpts of an interview with him on the subject. Excerpts from another interview with him are featured in the chapter on CAD in Linda Case's excellent book "Design/Build for Remodelers, Custom Builders, and Architects" published by the National Association of Home Builders. Ken's professional memberships have included the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, the National Association of Homebuilders, Qualified Contractors USA, Home USA, the National Federation of Independent Business, the Northern Virginia Board of Realtors, the Virginia Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, and the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. Ken is an avid outdoor enthusiast and counts among his active hobbies such activities as white water canoeing, small plane flying, scuba diving and snorkeling, hiking, backpacking, bicycling, snow skiing, water skiing, spelunking (caving) and photography (underwater, underground, aerial, as well as conventional photography). He is proud to bring his deep-rooted love of nature to the construction and development profession, and his projects always reflect his reverence of natural beauty and respect for the land. Ken has been married to Diane Foley since 1988, and Diane is the Corporate Secretary. They have two young children, both boys, who love to accompany Daddy to the "Struction Site" now and again. Sharon Sencindiver has been Office Manager at Ken Foley Custom Homes since 1995. She handles all of the bills, the payroll, the bookkeeping, the ordering, and many of the other vital functions and day-to-day operations that keep the doors open.
